Edressa B. Everett

GILBERTOWN - Services for Edressa Bolden Everett, 96, were held on May 5, 2017 at Mt. Mariah Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Pearson officiating. Interment followed in Gin Creek Baptist Church cemetery.

Everett, born the second daughter of the late Henry and Olevia Bolden, passed away on April 27, 2017. She joined Pineville Missionary Baptist Church in Gilbertown until moving to Shiloh Baptist church after marrying. She later joined Mt. Mariah Baptist Church until her health declined.

She is survived by her son, Joe (Lilly) Everett; stepdaughter, Rosetta Gardner; stepsons, Terrance Powe, Gerald (Salina) Pace; step granddaughter, Calaya Pace; sisters, twin - Leedressa Hawkins and Clara Pearson; brother, Henry (Lois) Bolden, Jr.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Hattie Graham, Roosevelt (Earnestine) Bolden, Lucille Dankins, Calvin (Abbey) Bolden, McKinley (Bertha) Bolden, Mary (Theron) Sharp, Thomas (Doris) Bolden, and Rose Causey.

Christian Memorial Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

 

Mary E. Thompson

GILBERTOWN - Funeral services for Ms. Mary Eathel Thompson, age 78, were held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Phillips Funeral Home in Gilbertown, AL, with Rev. Sammy Singleton, Rev. Jesse Griffith, and Rev. Willie F. Long, Jr., officiating.  Visitation was held Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home.  Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Gilbertown, AL.

       Ms. Thompson passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at her residence in Gilbertown, AL.

       She is survived by her daughter, Melendie T. Whittington of Gilbertown, AL; one brother, Willie T. Newton (Liz) of Gilbertown, AL; three sisters, Mildred Marie Jenkins (Sidney Earl) of Vancleave, MS, Lou Ella Griffin of Vancleave, MS and Ruby Mae Newton of Vancleave, MS; three grandchildren, Dustin Whittington (Nicole), Danly Whittington, and Ashley Whittington Pruitt (Lance); and five great grandchildren, Rachael Whittington, Joshua Shaw, Codie Shaw, Hunter Pruitt, and Gabrielle Pruitt.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Thompson and parents, Virgil E. Newton and Lena Mae Gibson Newton.     

       Serving as pallbearers were James Jenkins, William “Bill” Logan, Lee Mosley, Ernie Randall, Walter “Pete” Sellers, and Alan Wilson.  Honorary pallbearers included Billy Abston, Mike Thompson, and Kenny Mosley.

William Hackney

MERIDIAN - Graveside services for William “Bill” Hackney, 73, were Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 3 P.M. at Red Springs Assembly Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Turner officiating.

Mr. Hackney was born July 4, 1943 in North Carolina and passed away Friday, May 19, 2017 at Poplar Springs Nursing Center in Meridian, Mississippi. He was a retired truck driver.

He is survived by friends.

Donald W. Lewis

SPRINGVILLE - A Celebration of Life Memorial service for Mr. Donald Wayne “Duck” Lewis, age 72, was held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Phillips Funeral Home in Gilbertown, AL, with Reverend Eugene Ray and Turk Phillips officiating.  His final resting place will be in Springville, AL.   

       Mr. Lewis passed away on Friday, April 21, 2017 in Pell City, AL.

       He is survived by his wife, Kattie Ray Lewis of Springville, AL; daughter, Wendy Lewis Creel (Keith P.) of Birmingham, AL; three brothers, Allen Lewis (Dee) of San Antonio, TX, Ray Lewis (Gwen) of Gilbertown, AL, and Sam Lewis (Lolaine) of Gilbertown, AL; four grandchildren, Joey Dasis (Annie) of Warrior, AL, Koty Creel of Birmingham, AL, Kattie Creel Spence (Ty) of Springville, AL, and Anna Creel Bryant (Turner) of Grayson Valley, AL; and five great grandchildren, Kate Dasis, Emily Dasis, Jonah Dasis, Allie Spence and John Owen Spence.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen Watson Lewis and Susie Tindle Lewis, and two sisters, Berniece Lewis Adams and Marylee Lewis Odom.

Vonville D. Slay

COYT, MS - Funeral services for Ms. Voncille Donald Slay, age 75, were held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Coyt Baptist Church in Coyt, MS, with Sister Maxine Turner and Sister Peggy Tyson officiating.  Visitation was held Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church.  Interment was in the Coyt Baptist Cemetery in Coyt, MS.

       Ms. Slay passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at her residence in Coyt, MS.

       She is survived by two sons, Tony Ezell (Linda) of Gilbertown, AL and Donald Ray Ezell (Nell) of Coyt, MS; six sisters, Betty Jean Lindsey (John Thomas) of Silas, AL, Dianna Presley (Gerald) of Toxey, AL, Cynthia Roberts (Willie) of Matherville, MS, Deanie Jackson (Mickey) of Coyt, MS, Jackie Sue Slay of Langsdale, MS, and Roxie Ann Skinner (James) of Toxey, AL; four brothers, Allen Donald of Coyt, MS, Butch Donald (Darlene) of Coyt, MS, Gary Donald (Janet) of Coyt, MS, and John Paul Donald (Pam) of Coyt, MS; five grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Aubrey Newton Donald and Lula Mae Donald; grandson, Jasper Waylon Ezell and sister, Deborah Donald.   

Serving as pallbearers were Gary Donald, James Skinner, Johnny Richardson, Ron Harrison, Bobby Pruitt, and Jonathan Richardson Donald.  Honorary pallbearers included Butch Donald, Gerald Presley, John Paul Donald, Kenneth Donald, and L. D. Harrison.

Gerald F. Mozingo

GILBERTOWN - Funeral services for Mr. Gerald Frank Mozingo, age 49, were held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, May 19, 2017 at Heritage Church of God in Gilbertown, AL with Reverend Chris Sowell and Sister Martha Sikes officiating.  Visitation was held Friday, May 19, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.  Interment was in the White Oak Ridge Family Cemetery in Gilbertown, AL.

       Mr. Mozingo passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2017.

       He was an active member of Heritage Church of God and a board member of the Alabama Forestry Association.  He was employed as a Timber Procurement Manager at Mid Star Timber. 

       He is survived by his wife, Sarita Doggett Mozingo of Gilbertown, AL; son, Colton Ford Mozingo (Annie) of Gilbertown, AL; daughter, Cortney Mozingo Richardson (Ryan) of Butler, AL; granddaughter (on the way), Gracie Anne Richardson; mother, Gracie Mozingo of Wimberly, AL; father, James Mozingo (Angie) of Laton Hill, AL; brothers, Carlos Mozingo (Beth) of Lisman, AL and Dwight Mozingo (Lori) of Wimberly, AL; and special extended family, Randy, Elaine, and Cooper McKee.

Serving as pallbearers were Matt Doggett, Seth Doggett, Scott Downey, Dewayne Manning, Nathan Donald, Brian Hendrix, Scott Diamond, and Scott Dees. Honorary pallbearers included employees of Mid Star Timber and former employees of Scott Paper Co.

  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association or Heritage Church of God Children’s Ministry.

Edith M. Hendry

MILLRY - Funeral services for Ms. Edith Mae Armstrong Hendry, age 78, were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 20, 2017 at New Beginnings Family Church in Millry, AL, with Reverend Bo Curry officiating.  Visitation was held Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church.  Interment was in the Millry Cemetery in Millry, AL.

       Ms. Hendry passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Providence Hospital in Mobile, AL.

       She is survived by her son, Wyatt “Bubba” Hendry, Jr. (Dana) of Millry, AL; two daughters, Edie Speed (Mike) of Benton, LA and Patty Reynolds of Millry, AL; brother, Wallace “Red” Armstrong (Bessie) of Wilmer, AL; three grandchildren, Hunter Reynolds, Michael Speed and Autumn Speed Nuss; and three great grandchildren, Justin Speed, John Michael Speed and Wyatt Henry Nuss.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Wyatt Hendry; son, Randy Jay Hendry; parents, J. B. Armstrong and Maybell McMillan Armstrong; and sister, Judy Hester.      

Serving as pallbearers were Paul Taylor, Bobby Carpenter, Jerry Loper, Wayne Taylor, Marcus Hester, Larry Hester, Justin William and Jim Cranford.

Johnnie B. Traylor

YANTLEY - Funeral services for Johnnie B. Traylor were held Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 146 Concord Road, Lisman, Alabama 36912.  Interment was in the Church Cemetery with Pastor Edward Dubose officiating.

Johnnie B. Traylor, departed this life on Wednesday, May 10, 2017.  He was a member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church.  He was preceeded in death by his father and mother Charlie and Johnnie K. Traylor, three brothers Charlie Jr, Albert and Issac Traylor.

He leaves to cherish his memories one daughter, Yolanda (Shaun Holliday) Traylor of Toomsuba, MS and one step-son David Charles Ruffin of Clarksdale, Tennessee, one sister Maple J. Traylor and one brother Richard J. Traylor both of Mobile, Alabama.  Six grandchildren; Destiny Holliday, Deshaun and Fabion Holliday, Jaylon Traylor, Kayla Traylor, Kaliyah Holiday all of Toomsuba, MS, two devoted cousins, Jimmy (Betty) Dubose and Family and Julis Dubose and Family, a host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends.
